Let’s build stronger decision-making together.

With your threats and vulnerabilities mapped out, you probably see a long list of risks. The next challenge is deciding which ones deserve your attention first.

It can quickly feel overwhelming. I remember the first time I did this exercise with my team. Our business was growing, and as we listed out potential risks, the excitement about new opportunities started to feel daunting. Maybe you’ve felt the same-stuck by too many options and unsure where to focus.

The key is prioritisation. Instead of trying to prepare for everything, you need a way to identify which risks matter most.

One method that worked for us was using a weighted decision score. We built a simple risk matrix, assigning values to factors like warning time, potential impact, and speed. By totalling these scores and sorting the risks, we could clearly see where to focus our efforts and avoid getting stuck in analysis paralysis.

This approach made it much easier to move forward with confidence, knowing we were tackling the most important risks first.

This is just one step in the ten-part scenario planning guide I created. If you want the full checklist and practical examples, you can read the complete article here:

The most important tip emerges from his principle of being radically open-minded. This idea is powerful—it’s often the difference between decisions that succeed and those that crash and burn. It’s the difference between your team...
